Topic: Entrepreneurship in the Triangle


Scot Wingo is a serial entrepreneur in the Triangle and will share highlights of his journey.  Scot will also share the backstory of his Triangle startup ecosystem passion project: The Tweener List and the affiliate investing vehicle, the Triangle Tweener Fund.

 

  • Learn more about how Scot founded Stingray Software (acquired), AuctionRover (acquired),  ChannelAdvisor (IPO and then acquired) and Spiffy (active) all in the Triangle.
  • Dig into the history and maturation of the Triangle's startup ecosystem and the genesis of the Tweener List.
  • Track the progress of the Tweener Fund from start in 2022 through Q1 2024 and beyond including 114 investments across 91 Triangle HQ'd startups.
  • Discuss what we need to take accelerate  Triangle's startup flywheel and how NCER members can help if interested.
  • Engage in a transparent and honest discussion about what it's like to start, scale and exit a new company in the Triangle.

 

Speaker Bio:

 

Spiffy’s CEO, Scot Wingo, is a 4-time serial entrepreneur from the Research Triangle Park, NC region. As an industry thought leader in E-commerce, E-service, and the future of mobility, Scot has appeared on CNBC and The Today Show, and has contributed to the WSJ, New York Times, Forbes, and many other publications. Scot co-hosts The Jason & Scot Show podcast, and regularly speaks about entrepreneurship and digital disruption across the country. Scot is a Triangle Tweener Fund General Partner, and recently celebrated Crunchbase naming them the second most active fund in the USA for July 2023.

Scot received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a master of Computer Engineering degree from North Carolina State University. He has received numerous awards including Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Triangle Business Journal Businessperson of the Year and CEO of the Year, and the North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH) lifetime achievement award, the Beacon Award.
